Initial Enrollment is three months before you turn 65, your birthday month, and three months after.

You May Also Qualify for a Medicare Special Enrollment Period
If you experience a life event like moving or retiring, a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) allows you to make changes to your Medicare Advantage or drug coverage.
Life Events Include:
- Losing current coverage
- Moving
- Retiring
- Changes to your Medicare plan
- Gaining new health coverage eligibility
- Changes to your eligibility status
SEPs last two to three months. If you lose your job, Medicare Part B enrollment can extend to eight months.
During Your SEP, You Can:
- Enroll in Medicare Part A and/or Part B
- Make changes to your Medicare Advantage or drug plan
If you experience a qualifying life event and enroll in Medicare Part A or Part B during a Special Enrollment Period, you have two months to select a Medicare Advantage Plan (with or without drug coverage) or a standalone Part D plan.
