Medicare costs can be different for everyone. It depends on what coverage you choose and the care you need. Some people also choose extra plans like Medicare Advantage or Medigap, which can help lower out-of-pocket costs.
Here’s a simple look at the 2025 Medicare costs:
Part A – Hospital Insurance
Most people don’t pay a monthly cost (premium) for Part A. If you do have to pay, it may be $285 or $518 a month, based on how long you or your spouse worked and paid Medicare taxes.
Other Part A Costs:
- Deductible: $1,676 each time you're admitted to the hospital
- Hospital stays:
- Days 1–60: $0 after deductible
- Days 61–90: $419 per day
- Days 91–150: $838 per day (60 lifetime reserve days)
- After 150 days: You pay all costs
- Skilled nursing care:
- Days 1–20: $0
- Days 21–100: $209.50 per day
- After 100 days: You pay all costs
- Home health care:
- $0 for covered services
- 20% of cost for equipment like wheelchairs or hospital beds
- Hospice care:
- $0 for most care
- Up to $5 for medicine
- 5% for short-term inpatient care
Part B – Medical Insurance
The monthly premium starts at $185, but it may be higher based on income. You’ll still pay this monthly even if you don’t use Part B services.
Other Part B Costs:
- Deductible: $257 per year
- Most services: You pay 20% of the cost after deductible
- Lab tests: $0
- Home health care:
- $0 for services
- 20% for equipment
- Mental health care:
- $0 for yearly depression screening
- 20% for visits or therapy
- Outpatient care:
- Usually 20% for services
- You may also pay a hospital fee (copayment)
Part C (Medicare Advantage)
